Another walk planned for this Sunday (14 April) .. this walk is planned for after the FIRST SERVICE – which is different from normal – to allow for more time for walk (approx 3 hours) . Meeting at the church at 11.30 or 12 at start of the walk if you want to make your own way there.
Date: 14th April: Pentlands Walk – Scald Law and the Kips via the Old Kirk Road
This walk is a little more demanding. From the start of Old Kirk Road (lay-by on the A702 between Flotterstone and Silverburn), the road climbs up to the saddle between Carnethy Hill and Scald Law. From the saddle its a short climb to the top of Scald Law, leaving the old road to weave its way over the saddle and down towards Loganlee Reservoir (our forefathers walked this way to the Kirk!). From the top of the law, our track descends a short distance before climbing up East Kip, followed by West Kip before descending to past Eastside Farm and an old fort, to the road 1 1/2 miles from the car park. Hill tracks – can be muddy in places.
Distance: 7.5 km; 4.5 miles Climb: 450 m;1,500 ft (Total)
Meet: KCC or parking at lay-by on A702 approximately 3.5 km / 3 miles SW of Flotterstone Time: 12 pm (or 11.30 at KCC after first service and your packed lunch!).
