Christ is enough

The letter to the Colossians was written by Paul to a young church in the city of Colossae, a small but culturally diverse city in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). Although Paul had not personally visited the church, he wrote to encourage believers who were facing pressure from false teaching. These teachings blended elements of Jewish law, philosophy, and spiritual practices, promoting a “Jesus +” gospel—suggesting that faith in Christ alone was not enough.

In this new series, we will explore the centrality of Christ. The church in Colossae was tempted to embrace a “Jesus +” gospel, and this challenge has continued throughout the ages, right up to the time we live in today.

We will explore how Jesus calls us to focus on Him alone and to be a thankful and prayerful community of believers. We will be reminded that Jesus is supreme and sovereign over all. Colossians teaches us the importance of being wise in how we minister and of being rooted in the goodness of the gospel.

True freedom does not come from creating another version of the gospel, but from knowing Christ—and Christ alone.

Colossians challenges us not only to understand the gospel in theory, but to apply it in very practical ways. What does living out the gospel look like as a married couple? What does it look like in family life? What does it look like in the workplace?

The book of Colossians closes with the challenge of sharing this good news with others.
